First Cohort – 2013/14
Beginning as a trial group completing after school ‘taster’ sessions, Mount Gilbert pupils began preparing for the Duke of Edinburgh course in October 2013, before officially beginning the course in March 2014.
Pupils have worked extremely hard to improve their map reading, navigation skills, teamwork and independence – all in preparation for the practice and assessment expeditions that took place in September 2014.
Of the four pupils that took part in both expeditions, all four were successful and passed the ‘Bronze’ Level assessment. This is an outstanding achievement and a qualification that we hope will go a long way to improving the self-confidence of all pupils involved.
New Cohort – 2015/16
Due to popular demand, a new intake of Duke of Edinburgh pupils have commenced their training in preparation for their practice and assessment expeditions. Five pupils have taken part in navigation and map reading training and are close to reaching the required standard to enable them to be submitted for assessment.
We hope to schedule expeditions after Easter 2016……Watch this space!
